Sustainability

At the Skating Rink Museumplein, it’s not just about fun on the ice, but also about caring for the city and the future. Together with 4PM Entertainment and partners, we work every year on a more sustainable ice rink in the heart of Amsterdam.

Energy-efficient skating in Amsterdam

The biggest energy consumers are of course the cooling systems that keep the ice in perfect condition. That’s why we work with the innovative Ice-World system, which uses up to 40% less energy than traditional systems. We also use the existing power supply at Museumplein, so we don’t need diesel generators. The remaining energy is fully compensated with green electricity certificates. This way you can enjoy the ice rink in Amsterdam with a minimal ecological footprint.

Circular and waste-free

During construction and furnishing, we use as many modular materials as possible that are reused at other events in Amsterdam. Also during the season we limit waste to a minimum:

  • No disposable plastic, but recyclable cups and compostable tableware
  • Waste separation with clear collection points
  • Cooperation with local waste partners for recycling

Our goal: reuse at least 50% of the materials used and recycle at least 75% of all plastic cups.

Food & drinks with an eye to the future

In the catering of the Skating Rink Museumplein, sustainability is also on the menu. At least half of the dishes are vegetarian and we work as much as possible with local, organic products. From pea soup to cheese fondue and from fair trade coffee to hot chocolate: tasty, responsible and perfectly suited to winter in Amsterdam.

What remains does not go to waste. Together with partners such as the Food Bank and BuurtBuik, we ensure that food that is not sold still ends up in good hands. Our goal? 0% food waste. Less waste, more impact.

A green future on the ice

With these measures, we make the Skating Rink Museumplein not only the coziest, but also the most sustainable ice rink in the city. This way everyone can enjoy an unforgettable winter in Amsterdam, without unnecessary burden on the environment.
